‘93 4Runner 3VZ/5 speed combo, 4wd, and only 12k miles for $30k. This thing is the definition of clean. Also, I need new “4WD” mudflaps for my 4Runner, but those suckers are impossible to find, even on eBay. If only mine was as clean as this....

I can’t decide if I’d rather have this with a manual or a new one for the same price with an automatic.

I’d take the new one.

Old cars with very little mileage make me nervous.

Plus, the new car has so many more amenities than a 1993. though if you really want a tape deck...

And this one is too clean to use like a 4 runner should. I’d feel better messing up a new one on a trail than ruining this old one.

I don’t know why they wouldn’t sell it stock with a 1UZ. We fatass Americans would eat that up.

12,000 miles and the rear springs STILL look saggy. We had a 91 and it was beefed up with air springs in the back to get rid of the rake.

They did well one with the 2uz...we didn’t.

I did that with a 94 but bought overkill springs which caused a horrendous grinding noise when decelerating at highway speed. Remedied it by carrying a couple hundred pounds of sand in the back. True story.

At first I was like "wow, the cleanest 2nd gen I've ever seen...with crazy low miles!" then I was all like "30 grand? someone is smoking Rob Fordian levels of crack."

But 1UZ and 2nd gen 4Runners were intorduced about the same time. They could’ve just tuned it a bit to optimize low-end torque and plopped it in there. I imagine that would’ve made a pretty decent towing/hauling rig.

Yeah, it’s a total CP, but thing is, you could’ve reset the odometer to zero and no one would know the difference (suspension sag aside) because it’s that clean.

the optimized for low end UZ is the 2UZ, but you are right, it didn’t come about until 1998. The other thing was that these small rigs were all underpowered at the time, it was just the norm. No one dreamed of even 200 hp in something in this class at the time.

DAMMIT 90S PEOPLE WHY CAN’T YOU DREAM!!!

And yes the 2UZ is optimized for low end, but it’s a pretty different engine from the 1UZ even though they’re in the same family.

yes, its different. I just mean that in the UZ family, the 2UZ is the “truck” motor (also boat).

Wow, I would like to hear it’s story. Not a typical vehicle people would buy and park. Even if they got $30k that was a horrible financial decision.

CP. I’d buy a diesel Surf for that. Or swap mine and fully restore it. I had absolutely mint 4WD mudflaps I would have sent you, but my dog destroyed them when I took them off.

womp womp womp. I love those mudflaps. They just look so good. Mine aren’t torn up, they just don’t have the paint on them anymore.

Mine did. Though, if you are careful enough, you could paint them back on.

if it were you, what kind of paint would you use?

Tire paint: https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-HT…

Make a stencil, then color it in.

The letters are raised though so couldn’t I just use painter’s tape?

That isn’t much less than I just paid for my 2016 4runner. I always liked the 2nd generation. I had a customer come in with one that he had just bought. He was the type of person that never spent more than $1000 on a car, didn’t know anything about cars, and didn’t care. He’d buy the first one he found in his price range, drive it into the ground, then buy another. He came in with this 4Runner for the first time. Pretty rough, rust holes everywhere. Get in to check the mileage and am shocked to see it’s a 5 speed. Open the hood and it’s got the TRD supercharger! He knew nothing about the car and ended up just letting it fall apart like all his others.

That’s sad, but hey if they weren’t in good shape when he bought them, more power to him.
